Imberbus 2026

A rare opportunity to visit the evacuated village of Imber will return next month as the annual Imberbus Day brings vintage buses back to Warminster.

The event will return on Saturday 15th August, offering public access to Imber, a village evacuated in 1943 to provide space for military training.

Several London Transport Routemaster buses, along with newer vehicles, will run from outside Warminster Train Station to Imber and other parts of Salisbury Plain.

The service will operate on a first-come, first-served basis, with tickets costing £10 for adults and £2 for children.

“Just turn up on the day and pay the conductor on the bus, or purchase a ticket from the ticket desk outside the station or from one of our roving ticket sellers,” said organisers.

At Imber, there will be performances by Bratton Silver Band, displays by the London Transport Museum and the Thames Valley and Great Western Omnibus Trust, plus Morris dancers performing from 10am until 11am.

“This year, access to Imber on this date will only be possible using the Imberbuses themselves,” said organisers. “Cars, motorbikes, cycles, scooters or pedestrians will not be permitted access to the military roads on this date, so if you want to drive your own vehicle to Imber, you will need to delay your trip until the Bank Holiday weekend from 29th until 31st August.”
