Warminster Town Football Club (WTFC) will “deliver a substantial package of improvements” at the club’s Weymouth Street ground following support from town councillors.
Warminster Town Council (WTC) has awarded £12,000 to WTFC to be used towards boundary fencing and wall retention systems, with money coming from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).
Alongside the council’s support, WTFC has secured £19,620 from the Football Foundation which will allow “significant investment in the future” of the popular club.

Cllr Jack Jones, Mayor of Warminster, said: “I’m delighted that Full Council has approved £12,000 towards these important improvements at Warminster Town Football Club.
“This is an investment not only in the club, but in community safety and the future of grassroots sport in our town.
“The funding will help unlock the significant external investment already secured by the club and allow much-needed improvements to the boundary fencing and ball retention systems at Weymouth Street to go ahead.
“These improvements will make the ground safer for players and spectators, while also reducing the risk posed by footballs leaving the ground and entering the surrounding area.
“Warminster Town FC is an important part of our community, and I’m proud that the town council has been able to support a project that will provide a lasting benefit to the club and the wider town.”

James Stone, Chairman of WTFC, added: “We are absolutely delighted and extremely grateful to Warminster Town Council for awarding the Club £12,000 of CIL funding.
“This is a significant investment in the future of our Weymouth Street ground and, combined with the £19,620 we have already secured from the Football Foundation, will allow us to deliver a substantial package of improvements to the facility.
“The project will enable us to replace the ageing boundary fencing, improve ball retention along Weymouth Street, and significantly enhance the security of the ground.
“It will also support improvements to the concrete spectator pathway, helping spectators to move safely around the ground and view the pitch from three sides.
“For a volunteer-run, not-for-profit football club, improvements of this scale are extremely difficult to deliver without external support.
“The council’s contribution means we can take advantage of the Football Foundation funding already secured and deliver improvements that will benefit our players, supporters, volunteers, and the wider Warminster community for many years to come.
“On behalf of everyone at Warminster Town Football Club, I would like to thank Warminster Town Council for its continued support, and everyone involved in helping us secure this funding.”
CIL is a planning charge payable by developers on any new development. The WTC policy is that its share of the CIL should be spent on investment in the public realm and public facilities that support the community. The decision was made by councillors at a Full Council meeting on Monday 28th September.
WTFC will report back to the WTC on completion of the boundary fencing and wall retention work.
