Warminster has become a Watermark Town after successfully working with local community groups over a 12-month programme.
The town council, with support from Wessex Water, has achieved the award following initiatives including distributing free water butts and Yellow Fish markers.
Further work on social media as well as a community outreach stall at Spring in the Park has raised awareness about the value of water, improved understanding of local water supply and wastewater systems and promoted community-wide sustainable practices.

The Wessex Water endorsement secures Warminster’s place within a network of concerned and responsible communities helping to save water, improve the local environment and manage rainwater more efficiently.
Cllr Jack Jones, Mayor of Warminster, said: “Achieving Watermark Town status is a fantastic milestone for Warminster and reflects the dedication of many people who care deeply about our local environment.
“Water is one of our most precious resources, and this recognition highlights the positive work taking place across our community to protect and enhance it. We are proud to join the Watermark network and look forward to building on this achievement in the years ahead.”

“Their fantastic efforts show how much they value the local environment and sustainable water management. It is our pleasure to hand over the award and present Warminster with Watermark Town status.
“We launched our Watermark Town Awards initiative because we recognise that we must work together with our local communities to help tackle climate and nature emergencies and respond to the need for carbon neutrality, rising environmental expectations and higher living costs.
“We want to celebrate the efforts of local communities that work with us towards building a more sustainable future.”
Warminster Town Council will continue to promote sustainable practices across the town with ongoing support from Wessex Water, which includes creating a water map.
In 2025, Wessex Water invested £2 million to help protect the town by installing a new underground tank to reduce pressure on sewers during heavy rainstorms.
