Ideas sought for telephone kiosk at Highbury Park
A member of the public has requested that the Town Council adopt the decommissioned red telephone kiosk at Highbury Park, and possibly use it as a notice board. The kiosks are recognised as iconic British design, so are being preserved as heritage items. BT are selling their red kiosks to parish and town councils for a nominal fee of £1, provided that the community then takes on their upkeep. The Town Development Committee debated the proposal at their meeting on 10th June, and were undecided as to whether they wished to take on this responsibility. Councillor Macdonald proposed that the public be asked to submit imaginative ideas as to the potential use of the kiosk, and that these ideas be debated at a future meeting at which a decision could be made. There was unanimous support for this proposal, and the Town Council is asking members of the public to contact them with their suggestions.
