Job description

Grounds Maintenance Operative

1. Job Summary

Warminster Town Council is a growing council which provides quality services and assets for the Warminster community and those visiting the town.

The council is committed to climate change and to environmentally responsible working practices. The Grounds Maintenance Operative will work within a small team, to a pre-determined schedule of grass cutting and general grounds maintenance at all town council maintained areas across Warminster. The post holder will be expected to use their own initiative. They will be in daily contact with members of the public, community organisations and their representatives, other council service users and contractors on or off site, and the post holder will always be required to be courteous and polite.

This is a full time position, 37 hours per week, seasonalised hours working 5 out of 7 days, and will pay within the salary range SPC 5 £19,650 pay award pending as at October 2022.

2. Responsibilities and Duties

The job holder will:

  • report to the Park and Open Spaces Supervisor
  • cut grass, shrubs and hedges as well as collect litter
  • ensure that work areas are left clear of litter and detritus in accordance with Warminster Town Council’s operating procedures
  • ensure all work is in accordance with best horticultural practice
  • maintain the cab of any vehicle used in a clean and tidy condition
  • respond politely to approaches from members of the public
  • report any defects in vehicles and plant to the supervisor
  • maintain records as required
  • report accidents and incidents as required
  • operate and maintain all machinery safely in line with the manufacturer's handbook
  • use any designated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times as directed and to maintain it in accordance with the instructions provided
  • notify Warminster Town Council of any incidents that may impact on the status of your driving licence
  • the post holder may be required to undertake duties other than those given in the job description for the post. The duties and responsibilities attached to the post may vary from time to time without changing the general character of duties or the level of responsibility entailed

3. Qualifications and Skills

  • current driving licence is essential
  • experience and skill in driving and operating a ride on mower in difficult areas
  • a knowledge of horticultural best practice
  • good communication skills and a willingness to go the extra mile
  • supervisory skills are advantageous
  • ability to work alone and as part of a small team

4. Salary and Benefits

  • 37 hours per week, seasonalised hours April 1st to 30th September 07.30-16.00 and 1st October to 31st March 07.30- 15.00 working 5 out of 7 days, and will pay within the salary SPC 6: £20,043 pay award pending as at October 2022.

  1. Core role

The Seasonal Team Member Boat Hire will be responsible for the day to day running of the boating lake, opening and closing of the boathouse, providing a safe environment for staff to work in and customers to spend time in as well as making sure the council meets all relevant health and safety regulations.

  1. Duties
  • Opening and closing the boathouse
  • Check the building and equipment on arrival and before leaving for any problems/damage.
  • Ensuring the lake is safe to be used.
  • Hire of Row Boats and Canoes to the public
  • Ensuring customers are provided with and correctly wearing safety equipment.
  • Providing safety cover whist users are on the lake.
  • Cashing handling.
  • Complete accident book/ Incident Log if necessary
  • Any other reasonable request by management
  1. Training

The postholder will be expected to undertake the following training, which will be provided by Warminster Town Council:

  • Manual handling
  • First Aid
  • Water safety
  1. Uniform

Staff will be expected to wear appropriate clothing. All PPE will be provided.

Hourly Rate : Starting at £9.18 per hour

2022.02.05 Seasonal Team Member Boat Hire Job Spec

  1. Core role

 The Seasonal Pavilion Café Assistant will help the Café Supervisor to run the busy café in The Lake Pleasure Grounds.  Serving hot and cold food, drinks and ice creams the café is a high-profile facility within the park.

  1. Duties

2.1       Open and close café, including daily checks  

2.2       Serve customers

2.3       Hire putting and tennis equipment and take deposits

2.4       Clear tables

2.5       Keep café clean, daily cleaning including washroom and deep clean

2.6       Deal with customer queries and complaints

2.7       Check stock and re fill when necessary

2.8       Inform line manager when stock is low to re-order

2.9       Record any accidents and incidents

2.10    Cashing up

2.11    Assist with any reasonable request from management

  1. Training

The postholder will be expected to undertake a comprehensive induction programme.

  1. Uniform

You will be provided with an apron which must be worn whist working.

You will need to provide your own black trousers and top and suitable footwear.
