Day Care Premises Sought
Local resident Mrs K Skillman had approached the Town Council expressing her concerns about the potential loss of day care when Woodmead closes. The new nursing home to be built on the old Beckford site has not made a proviso to take over the day care facility, and Mrs Skillman had been informed that ‘alternative arrangements’ are being made for the clients to ‘attend day centres elsewhere in the county’. She was concerned that the 20 elderly and vulnerable people who currently use the day care facility at Woodmead will no longer have access to this entitlement within their home town, and it will be impossible for them to travel further afield.
Councillor Jolley proposed that the Town Council investigate whether funding would be available to accommodate a day care facility either at Dewey House or at St John’s Hall. This proposal was carried with one abstention.
