Olympic Legacy Grants awarded
Warminster Town Council’s Finance and Assets Committee approved the first grants from the Olympic Legacy Fund at its meeting on Monday 2nd September. The beneficiaries were Warminster Table Tennis Club, granted £650 to purchase a new table for their ever-increasing membership; Bowmen of Warminster, granted £500 for training equipment; and Warminster Cricket Club, granted £400 for repairs to their batting frame and netting. Councillor Paul Batchelor, who had been the driving force behind setting up the fund, said ‘I am delighted that we are able to support these clubs through the fund, but at the same time am disappointed that the Olympic legacy has not encouraged the formation of new clubs. I had hoped that someone in the town may have wanted to set up a boxing club, for example – something the town does not have that would encourage young people into a more positive outlet for their energies.’
There is still £8,450 remaining in the Olympic Legacy Fund, and applications for grants will be considered bi-monthly at Finance and Assets Committee meetings. Forms are available from the Civic Centre or can be downloaded from the Council’s website www.warminster.uk.com.
