COVID-19 update from Wiltshire Council

COVID-19 UPDATE – Saturday 25 April 2020

Good afternoon

Please see the latest update regarding COVID-19.

Wiltshire Wellbeing Hub

The Wiltshire Wellbeing Hub is continuing to work at pace to provide support and guidance for the most vulnerable members of our community.

The Wellbeing hub has to date:
• delivered over 793 food parcels
• contacted over 9,541 people
• received 2,563 calls
• received 1,065 emails

For more community and volunteer information, including details on how supermarkets are supporting communities, information about food banks, and contact details of our Community Engagement Managers please visit the 'Community information: support, volunteering, information packs' section on our Covid-19 webpage http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/public-health-coronavirus
Don’t forget we have also created an online interactive map that allows people to see what COVID-19 community support is available in their neighbourhood and throughout the county.
The map, which will be regularly updated, can be found at www.wiltshire.gov.uk/public-health-coronavirus.
Self-isolating / social-distancing support
The council has designed some posters for residents who are unable to answer the door due self-isolating or social-distancing measures. The posters, which provide instructions to for people making deliveries, can be downloaded from our Covid-19 webpage.
Launch of the ‘In it together’ campaign
Following reports of council key workers being subjected to threatening behaviour and verbal abuse whilst delivering COVID-19 critical services, we have joined together with Salisbury District Hospital and other service providers to launch the #InItTogether campaign, http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/news/articles/in-it-together.
This campaign aims to highlight to residents that it is vital partners work successfully together to respond to the ongoing COVID-19 situation and remind them to respect staff from all agencies during this unprecedented time.
Please support the campaign by sharing the #InItTogether posts on social media and send any positive ‘good news’ stories to our communications team at communications@wiltshire.gov.uk.
Appeal - bedding needed for people leaving hospital

Wiltshire Council’s Reablement Team supports people to enable them to be discharged from hospital. Due to the current COVID-19 crisis the team is running low on stocks of bed linen and appealing to local shops and businesses that may be able to donate the following items:

• Single flat sheets
• Double flat sheets
• Pillow cases
• Single duvet covers
• Single duvets

The current COVID-19 crisis has increased demand and made it difficult to source bed linen from our usual suppliers. The team would therefore be grateful to local shops or businesses that may be able to kindly provide any additional items. The items need to be new to avoid the risk of cross infection from reusing preowned donations.

The community response to the ongoing COVID-19 situation has been, and continues to be, fantastic and we thank local businesses for their kind help and support.

Any shops or businesses that can help with the supply of bed linen are asked to email HeadsofServiceAdultcare@wiltshire.gov.uk with the subject line Bed linen support. The supplies are needed at County Hall, Trowbridge and at Monkton Park, Chippenham and can be delivered during office hours or alternatively the council can collect items.
Guidance for Ramadan
Wiltshire and Swindon's Local Resilience Forum (LRF) has issued an open letter to Muslims in the county planning to mark Ramadan (23 April – 22 May), urging them to find alternative ways to celebrate, pray and enjoy the special month, reminding them that they will not be able to mark Ramadan in the way they would normally do.
Under the current restrictions, all places of worship, including mosques, should remain closed and people will be unable to meet outside of their immediate households for sharing meals and prayers.
The LRF is asking everyone who is preparing for Ramadan to think about different ways of connecting virtually with people outside their own household, including praying at home, planning Iftars ahead to minimise trips to the supermarket, video calling family for Iftar meals (breaking the fast) and using social media to reach out to the community.
The Muslim Council of Britain has published a downloadable guide on Ramadan 2020 on its website providing further information and advice.

Changes to specialist mental healthcare services during the Covid-19 epidemic

The Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership (AWP) NHS Trust has provided an update on the provision of mental healthcare services in the region.

It’s crisis and intensive teams and urgent and emergency referrals continue to operate and respond as usual, and a new mental healthcare helpline (0300 303 1320) has been launched, which operates in Wiltshire seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
The helpline is predominately to support existing patients and their families and the AWP are working closely with the community and voluntary sector to signpost members of the public to the most appropriate help.
Reduced or suspended services:
Inpatient services
In order to protect patients from the risk of infection, the AWP are working to avoid, as far as possible, any new hospital admissions.
Community and specialist services
The AWP has temporarily suspended routine referrals to the following services:
• Primary Care Liaison Service (PCLS)
• Memory Service
• Autism Spectrum Services for adults
• Adult ADHD Service
Drug and alcohol service
The AWP has temporarily suspended it’s drug and alcohol inpatient detoxification service at the Acer Unit, Blackberry Hill Hospital, Bristol, assessing that the travel required creates too high a risk of service users coming into contact with, or passing on, COVID-19.
The adult inpatient, community eating disorders service and STEPS community service has been relocated to the Acer Unit during this period.
Children and young people
The AWP has temporarily closed its enhanced day service at the Riverside Unit in Bristol in order to comply with national guidance to reduce risk of infection to the hospital site. Working closely with the CTAO team (Crisis, Triage, Assessment and Outreach), the AWP have revised its service model and will continue to provide our therapeutic services virtually to those who would likely otherwise require an inpatient admission.
The AWP is hoping to restore those affected services to normal operations as soon as it is possible to do this.
Regards

Cllr Philip Whitehead
