Warminster’s Lake Pleasure Grounds has been awarded a Green Flag by the organisation Keep Britain Tidy.
The Green Flag Award scheme recognises and rewards well managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
Chair of Warminster Town Council’s Parks and Estates Committee, Cllr Sue Fraser said:
“I am delighted that the Lake Pleasure Grounds has won this award. This is the 7th year in a row the Park has won a Green Flag. The feedback from the judges was very positive and speaks for itself.”
Amongst the feedback from the judges was:
‘The Lake Pleasure Ground is a lovely green retreat in the centre of the town. It is exciting to see the improvements and additions since the town council have taken on the site and it is clear that the park is a focal point for investment, providing clear benefit for the residents of the town.
‘A wide range of community groups use the park for various activities – this is to be applauded.
‘It provides well signposted facilities for all. Café has extended opening times throughout the summer. Toilets and seating allow people to use the site as a destination and spend time enjoying the park. Wheelchair accessible picnic benches and inclusive play equipment provide facilities for a range of users.
‘CCTV cameras with good coverage.
‘Plenty of split general/ recycling bins around the site. No litter noted. Dogs on site, but no evidence of fouling. Bins and benches are in a good condition.
‘Use of herbicide limited to treating Japanese knotweed, which is managed under a treatment plan.
‘Nice to see signage recognising school and Incredible edible involvement in planting beds.
‘Interpretation board about bats is good and there is opportunity and plans to add more.’

The Lake Pleasure Grounds is a vital green space for the community in Warminster, bringing people together and providing opportunities to lead healthy lifestyles. The staff and councillors do so much to ensure that it maintains the high standards of the Green Flag Award and everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their achievement.”
The Green Flag is judged on 28 factors, so every year the entrants must maintain a high standard of performance to prove their dedication to the scheme and cannot rest on their laurels and to keep winning. The judges look at a whole range of criteria across the whole spectrum of running a park before deciding whether a park qualifies.
