Warminster Town Council: Delivering a brighter, greener future for all

Climate Strategy

Warminster Town Council has an active Climate Strategy Working Group made up of councillors and others. It is committed to working in partnership with local businesses and the community with the aim of achieving carbon net zero by 2030. The council also supports the lead provided by Wiltshire Council with its Climate Strategy Action Plan, aiming to mirror Wiltshire Council’s action plan. The Action Plan follows on from the Climate Change Strategy setting out specific things that the council can achieve and things that the wider community can do.

Ongoing or Recent Projects

Unwanted tech can be donated in Warminster to help those in need via Wiltshire Digital Drive (WDD) Community Interest Company (CIC).

Devices can be dropped off at a donation centre in Warminster Civic Centre (Sambourne Road, Warminster BA12 8LB), from 9am to 4.30pm and the refurbished devices will then be redistributed to schools, charities and voluntary organisations.

Unwanted laptops and tablets can be donated. Smartphones are also accepted and distributed through WDD partner organisations. For more information and to see what devices are accepted click here.

Reusable cup campaign 2025

Between May-October 2025, Warminster Town Council collaborated with local cafes to run a giveaway competition to promote the use of reusable cups.

The initiative encourages residents to ditch single use cups across Warminster, supporting local cafes while also protecting the environment.

Participating local businesses displayed a poster to show they are a part of the initiative, encouraging residents to think twice about waste.

Students at Kingdown School continue to work alongside members of the Warminster Town Council Grounds Team, learning new skills as well as giving back to the local community. The group recently helped build bird nest boxes and bug hotels to be installed in the Lake Pleasure Grounds.

Warminster Town Council teamed up with Wessex Water to give away 80 free water butts to help residents save water, residents who lived near areas that were at high risk of flooding, were given first priority to the water butts to lessen then effect on our drainage systems.

A Warminster Town Council spokesperson said: “As part of Warminster Town Council’s commitment to help manage surface water and reduce the risk of localised flooding, residents were offered a free water butt.”

“This initiative is part of the Watermark Town Awards scheme and aims to help reduce surface water flooding and promote sustainable water use in the community.”

Coming soon!

30 yellow fish drain markers will be installed across Warminster to raise awareness about where our street drains lead to!

  • The ‘Yellow fish’ approach has been used all over the world to remind people to protect the environment by avoiding pollution.
  • Installing a yellow fish symbol beside surface water or storm water drains lets people know that anything entering the drain may go directly to the nearest stream, river, lake, canal, beach or bathing water – causing pollution and impacting or killing wildlife.
  • Many outside drains, which take rainwater from our gutters and roads, flow directly into the nearest river.

Wessex Water funded a new water bottle refill station in front of the library to encourage reusable bottles, rather than plastic single use ones!
