The Happy to Chat Bench in Warminster Town Park has proven a tremendous success. Many towns have taken part in the nonprofit scheme, designed to combat loneliness within communities.
Up until now, we have only had a temporary sign. However, due to the genuine generosity of a local Warminster business, it will now be getting a proper sign. Nick’s Cobblers and Keys at 47A, the High Street, has kindly offered to provide a sign to make the bench appear more official and prevent any temporary sign from damage.
The Happy to Chat Bench scheme has been running for several years now. The concept was simple: nominate a bench in a playground, community or park and make it widely known that anyone who sits on the bench is willing to talk and have a conversation with anyone else who sits down. It has had a profound result in many local communities. Loneliness and isolation, especially in recent years, has become a cause for concern for many people. Happy to Chat Benches are a simple and effective way to try and combat this.
We would like to thank the kindness of Nick’s Cobblers and Keys, and we hope that the bench provides a safe space for those who wish to have a space to talk.
