Warminster Town Council: Delivering a brighter, greener future for all

Warminster Neighbourhood Plan: Exploring housing

3 October 2024

15 sites put forward

The Warminster Neighbourhood Plan (WNP) will enter its Site Assessment stage after 15 sites were put forward for consideration by landowners and developers during the Warminster Neighbourhood Plan ‘Call for Sites’.

A ‘Call for Sites’ is a way to suggest sites that might be available for development in the future, which is a standard procedure in plan making. It’s important to note that this is an opportunity for anyone to suggest sites that they would like to be considered for development in the Neighbourhood Plan. The ‘Call for Sites’ does not determine how much new development is needed, or whether a site will be allocated in the Neighbourhood Plan.

Based on the housing allocation detailed in the draft Wiltshire Local Plan, the WNP Steering Group is looking to identify suitable land for up to around 90 houses to be built in Warminster by 2038.

What happens to the sites put forward

To assist the WNP Steering Group with the Site Assessment process, Warminster Town Council has been successful in securing technical support from the Government. This will enable a detailed assessment of all the sites and proposed uses to be undertaken and help to determine their potential suitability.

The community will have a say at every stage

Once the assessment is completed, the most suitable site or sites will be put forward for public consultation. Where the community shows majority support, sites will be included in a draft of the new Neighbourhood Plan.

In 2025, the draft Neighbourhood Plan will then go through a number of stages including public consultation and independent examination. Following this, the Plan will also be subject to a referendum, giving Warminster residents and stakeholders the final say on its adoption.
