Warminster Town Council: Delivering a brighter, greener future for all

Warminster Neighbourhood Plan prepares for next stage of consultation

25 September 2023

Progress continues to be made with the review of the Warminster Neighbourhood Plan.

Feedback has been gathered from the initial public consultation. This has enabled the Warminster Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group to shape the draft Warminster Neighbourhood Plan in preparation for the next stage of public consultation, known as Regulation 14.

A Warminster Town Council spokesperson said:

The current Warminster Neighbourhood Plan is being updated to take advantage of changes to local and national planning policies. The Plan aims to improve environmental and design standards of new buildings. It strives to protect valued local green space and heritage assets and assist in renewing the town centre.

The updating of the Plan provides an exciting opportunity to shape our town and our future. The next stage in the review process will be for the draft policies to be screened for environmental impacts. This procedure will need to be undertaken before Public Consultation can commence. Early indications would now suggest that Public Consultation will start early in the new year.

After the consultation, the draft Plan may be amended before going to a Planning Inspector for consideration and then the final proposals will have to be ratified by a referendum of Warminster residents.

In addition to the review of the Warminster Neighbourhood Plan, Wiltshire Council will also be commencing their public consultation on the Local Plan.

The Local Plan aims to set out the vision and framework for housing, infrastructure, and land for employment growth in Wiltshire for the next 15 years.

The Local Plan has a designated section on Warminster, giving residents and stakeholders the chance to provide their feedback on issues directly affecting Warminster such as housing supply, supporting the Town Centre, education, and climate change. Warminster Town Council will be submitting a response to the draft Local Plan. However, residents and stakeholders are also urged to put forward their individual thoughts and feedback.

The Wiltshire Local Plan consultation begins on Wednesday 27th September and ends on Wednesday November 22nd, with in-person events being held across the county.

The closest event for Warminster residents (and residents from Chapmanslade, Codford, Corsley, Heytesbury and Sutton Veny) will be held at Warminster Sports Centre, Woodcock Road, Warminster BA12 9DQ on October 18th from 3pm to 7pm.
