Local community heroes have been celebrated at the annual Warminster Town Council Civic Awards.

Invited guests enjoyed an afternoon tea as Warminster Town Mayor, Cllr Andrew Cooper presented the winners with framed certificates on Monday 8th December.

The awards are nominated by the public, voted for by Warminster Town Councillors and given to highlight examples of local community spirit and those who have ‘gone the extra mile’.

Cllr Andrew Cooper said: “I’d like to wholeheartedly congratulate all winners and thank them on behalf of the people of Warminster for the contribution they make to our wonderful town.

“It’s one of the most important nights in the year for the council. Warminster continues to be full of community spirit. We are very proud to host the Civic Awards and recognise some very special people who do so much.”

Andy Clark was the winner of the Civic Award for their tireless work and passion with Warminster’s branch of Royal British Legion.

Jennie Gilling was awarded the Green Civic Award for their commitment and work with the Community Orchard.

Phoebe Leigh Grant was awarded with a Junior Civic Award for her dedication and support as a young carer.

Civic Award: Andy Clark

Andy Clark was awarded the Civic Award for his unwavering passion for Warminster’s branch of Royal British Legion.

Under Andy’s leadership, the branch has flourished, becoming a more active and inclusive group, supporting veterans and fostering community spirit.

Outside of formal roles Andy regularly checks in on residents through welfare visits and friendly chats.

Andy is also committed to educating and inspiring next generation. Speaking on Warminster community radio (WCR), visiting local primary schools, Army cadet force (ACF) and Combined Cadet Force (CCF) ensuring the message is both accessible and meaningful.

Andy does all of this in his own time, whilst maintaining a full-time job. He never seeks recognition for his work; he is simply proud to represent the town of Warminster and the RBL.

Andy said: “I would like to thank the council for giving me this, but as with any award, one person cannot do everything. I could not have got this award if it hadn’t have been for the people who were supported me, both my wife, my family, and also all the organisations that I have contributed.”

Green Civic Award: Jennie Gilling

Jennie works closely with Warminster Town Council and leads a dedicated group of volunteers to care for Warminster Community Orchard.

Jennie coordinates a wide range of essential tasks, including pruning, mulching, scything, and juicing.

Jennie is also a core member of Sustainable Warminster through which she demonstrates an unwavering commitment to making Warminster a greener and cleaner place to live.

Her steadfast leadership and passion for local conservation, sustainable living, and the protection of Warminster’s cherished landscapes have no doubt played a vital role in shaping the town’s resilience and preserving its unique character.

Jennie’s work, integrity, and positivity as well as her passion for Warminster embodies the spirit of this award, and she deserves recognition for her lasting impact on our town and future generations.

Junior Civic Award: Phoebe Leigh Grant

Phoebe has been awarded the Junior Civic Award due to her support as a young carer for her mum.

Phoebe does more than most 14-year-olds and gives support and voluntarily help in everyday tasks that we all take for granted. Phoebe giving her time every day to help allows her mum to live independently.

The Mayor of Warminster’s special award for ‘Kindness to the Community’ was awarded to Dave Crump.

Cllr Cooper added: “Dave is known by all his kindness, his diligence and for reaching out to help and support those who need care and reassurance.

“In short, Dave always goes significantly over and above his normal duties. Everybody knows him and everybody likes him. He is a true friend of Warminster.”
