Warminster Town Council: Delivering a brighter, greener future for all

Longleat’s Lord and Lady Bath to light up Warminster

26 November 2024

Special guests will attend Warminster’s biggest ever Christmas celebrations on Saturday 30th November. Ceawlin and Emma Thynn, Marquess and Marchioness of Bath, are to switch on the Warminster Christmas Lights concluding a huge day of festive celebrations for the town.

The Warminster Business Network (WBN) in conjunction with Warminster Town Council has finalised exciting plans with roads once again closed in the town centre and a record number of stalls across the High Street, Market Place, Weymouth Street and in the Civic Centre in Sambourne Road.

There will be a mix of the best makers, food producers and old favourites with the independent market open until 6pm, encouraging a full day of shopping and trading across the town. The Civic Centre market in Sambourne Road will run until 4.30pm, with more than 30 stalls, Santa’s Grotto and food and drink stalls.

There will also be a packed entertainment schedule featuring eight entertainment acts performing live on a stage at the top of the Market Place, including a Freddie Mercury tribute act – One Vision of Freddie – ahead of the eagerly anticipated lights switch-on at 5.30pm.

Lord Bath said: “We are very proud that Longleat is very much part of the Warminster community with many colleagues living in the town and nearby villages. Emma and I are very much looking forward to taking part in the 2024 lights switch-on.”

Warminster Town Mayor, Cllr Stacie Allensby, added: “We have all been working hard to organise a real Christmas celebratory extravaganza for the town. I am thrilled we are welcoming Lord and Lady Bath to attend our festivities with the light switch-on event set to be the best yet. We can’t wait to show everyone what Warminster has to offer.”

Shops across the town including in East Street, Chinns Court and George Street will also be open, giving visitors the opportunity to purchase a variety of gifts for all, ahead of Christmas Day.

The High Street and Market Place will be closed from 7am until 8pm, with road closures in place; buses will be using temporary bus stops. Residents are encouraged to walk to the event if possible.

Public toilets will be available at the Civic Centre, Sambourne Road, Warminster BA12 8LB until 4.30pm as well as in Central Car Park. Parking will be available at Wiltshire Council car parks around Warminster.
