Warminster Town Council: Delivering a brighter, greener future for all

Warminster Town Council commits further funding to improve ‘excellent’ CCTV coverage

21 May 2025

Town councillors will invest further funding to ensure comprehensive CCTV coverage across Warminster.

Two years ago, the town centre CCTV system underwent modernisation, (paid for by Community Infrastructure Levy, CIL) upgrading the system from analogue to a new digital system. Coverage has been dramatically improved.

The system has proven to be a crucial asset in identifying and addressing various incidents and the surveillance coverage has also played a pivotal role in post-incident investigations; however, council officers have identified areas where coverage could be improved.

Following discussion at a Full Council meeting on Monday 12th May, councillors resolved to purchase and install fixed, bullet cameras at the central car park toilets and park toilets, a new multiview camera for Station Road, Lidl car park and two ANPR cameras at a cost of £9,863 + VAT, with funds to come from the Community Infrastructure Levy.

Cllr Davis said:

“The Warminster and Westbury CCTV partnership provides excellent coverage thanks to continuous advancements in surveillance technology and the commitment of our dedicated CCTV team.

“This investment continues our commitment to keeping the local area covered and sends a message that we remain focussed on reducing crime in Warminster.”

Warminster and Westbury CCTV partnership is overseen by a working group of representatives from Warminster Town Council, Westbury Town Council, Wiltshire Council, the Army, Wiltshire Police, West Wilts Trading Estate and local businesses.
