Warminster Town Council: Delivering a brighter, greener future for all

Town council exploring 20mph speed limit option for town centre

5 September 2025

Warminster Town Council is at the early stages of exploring a 20mph limit for the town centre following further discussions at the Highways Advisory Committee on Monday 1st September.

The town council has recommended to the Local Highway and Footway Improvement Groups (LHFIG) to consider a 20mph speed limit on Emwell Street, George Street, Silver Street and Sambourne Road (to the current 20mph zone) plus Market Place.

The cost estimate is £12,250 and the town council would have to contribute at least 25%. LHFIG will now consider the proposal and make a recommendation to the Area Board.

It is hoped the new speed limit will improve both safety in the town centre as well as ambiance for visitors.
