Warminster Community Speed Watch (CSW) is looking to recruit new volunteers to monitor speeding in the community.

Cllr James Kirkwood recently gave feedback at the Highways Advisory Committee on Monday 15th December.

Cllr Kirkwood explained he has 14 people interested in joining CSW and training will start shortly – once declaration of interest forms have been returned and processed.

As part of the programme, trained volunteers verify and record the registration number of vehicles recorded as breaking the speed limit. All information recorded is passed to the Police for further action.

CSW volunteers work closely with Community Policing Teams (CPTs) for their area, supported by an assigned Road Safety Officer and Community Speed Enforcement Officer.

Community Speed Watch only takes place where there is an identified speeding issue which has been confirmed by a traffic survey in a 20mph, 30mph or 40mph speed limits.

All volunteers are trained by Wiltshire Police to monitor traffic speed and must comply with a code of practice.

Cllr Kirkwood said: “The people who volunteer for speed watch groups fulfill an important role in their communities by discouraging speeding and preventing accidents. Residents can volunteer as many or as few hours as they like at times that can be arranged.” For more information email: Cllr.kirkwood@warminster-tc-gov.uk
