Warminster Town Council: Delivering a brighter, greener future for all

Free canoeing sessions enjoyed by Warminster young people

9 April 2024

Multiple Warminster young people took to the Lake Pleasure Grounds lake to enjoy free canoeing lessons this Easter break.

Qualified instructors from Wiltshire Outdoor Learning Team (WOLT) ran the 1 ½ hour sessions with local participants taken out in 2- and 3-seater Canadian canoes – paid for by Warminster Town Council.

People splashed on the water, developed paddle skills and enjoyed games during the three sessions on Thursday 4th April and Monday 8th April.

The sessions were available for residents aged 6 to 17, who had a BA12 postcode with spaces for 20 people on each session. 𝐅𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐮𝐩 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐨𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬.

Cllr Stacie Allensby said:

It is a great opportunity to have fun and learn new skills while enjoying the Lake Pleasure Grounds. This is the first of many free activities set to be offered, with Warminster Town Council investing in multiple activities that will cover a range of ages in Warminster.”

Town councillors previously unanimously approved £10,000 for free activities for young people. Warminster Area Board backed the move with a £5,000 grant, taking total funding to £15,000.

The town council have been working with Wiltshire Council and Wiltshire Police to look for ways to support the youth of Warminster.
