Warminster Town Council awards additional £7,500 grants to local groups

Warminster Town Council awarded a further £7,500 to local groups following the council’s Finance and Audit Committee meeting on Monday 2nd September. Members had previously deferred four applications to this meeting having requested additional information.

Wiltshire Search and Rescue, locate high-risk, vulnerable missing individuals, providing life-saving medical aid and return them to a place of safety. The non-profit making organisation was awarded £2,500, to refurbish their equipment van, which will improve their ability to respond anywhere in the county even in severe weather conditions. The Warminster & Westbury Visually Handicapped Club were awarded £700 – they are a social group for people with visual impairment, glaucoma or macular degeneration. The 20 plus members meet once a month on a Monday for lunch, arts and crafts, poetry, talks and outings. The grant will enable the club to continue the meets with its current high standards. We Are Men (WAM) promote a friendship group for men feeling lonely, isolated or needing to talk to someone. The aim is to break the stigma of poor mental health and to reduce the suicide rate of local men. The group were awarded £1,800, for running costs to aid meetings and for publicity. They meet at Warminster Town Football Club every Monday 7pm to 9pm. For more information visit: facebook.com/WAMWeAreMen. 

Warminster Rights of Way were awarded £2,500 for the purchase of a new field and brush mower. The new equipment will replace the existing machine and allow the organisation to maintain the Rights of Way network, encouraging people of all demographics to take exercise and enjoy the town and countryside.

The total funds awarded to the four organisations were £7,500. A grant budget of £2,148 remains. If your organisation wishes to apply, please see the town council website for an application form. All grant recipients are required to attend the Annual Town Meeting in April 2025 to explain how the grant has been used.
