CCTV partnership assists police to halt crime in Warminster

6 January 2025

Warminster and Westbury CCTV partnership remains committed to reducing shoplifting in 2025 and working alongside Wiltshire Police to stop and monitor organised crime.

On Thursday 2nd January, CCTV was alerted to an ongoing theft via the Shop Watch Radio system in Boots in 39 Market Place. Thanks to a good description of the suspect, the control room was able to track the suspect while keeping officers updated.

After a short search a male was arrested in Three Horseshoes Walk and taken to Melksham Police Station – with the stolen property returned to Boots.

In a second incident, on Friday 3rd January, Wiltshire Police responded to a report of high value thefts from B&M in Fairfield Road and Waitrose in Station Road.

The CCTV control room reviewed nearby cameras and assisted police to arrest two males on suspicion of theft. In total £536.49 worth of alcohol was stolen.

A Warminster Town Council spokesperson said:

We’re proud of our comprehensive and high-quality CCTV coverage; our operators have a direct radio link with Wiltshire Police, and we can inform them quickly during incidents such as these. We are pleased the stolen goods have been returned and we hope this sends a warning to potential shoplifters.
