Wildflowers have been planted around the lake in Warminster Lake Pleasure Grounds (Weymouth Street, Warminster, BA12 9NP) to enhance biodiversity, improve health lake, and reduce maintenance impacts.
A Warminster Town Council spokesperson explained: “Grass cutting along the lake perimeter can result in clippings entering the water, which can negatively impact water quality and disturb wildlife.
“Introducing wildflower strips provides a low-maintenance, sustainable solution that benefits both the environment and the community.”

According to Wiltshire Wildlife, leaving a buffer of a couple of metres will help prevent cuttings from entering the water and provide additional habitat diversity and shade along the margin.
Cllr Stephen Kirkwood added: “It’s a very good idea because it not only promotes wildlife, but biodiversity – which we need. I think it’ll encourage more people to be conscious of the environment within the park, and it is relatively easy idea to implement.”
Members resolved to approve the proposal to instal a 2-meter-wide wildflower sections at meeting of the Parks and Estate Committee.
