Warminster Heritage Open Days 2025: Opportunity to visit interesting sites across the town

Residents and visitors are invited to explore unseen parts of Warminster as Heritage Open Days return in September.

The festival celebrates England’s architecture and culture as well as being a chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – all free to explore from September 12th to 21st.

Sites in Warminster are The Athenaeum Centre, Chapel of St Lawrence, Minster Church of St Denys, St John’s Church, Warminster Maltings Ltd and Warminster School.

Athenaeum Centre Talk & Tour, 18-20 High Street, Warminster, Wiltshire, BA12 9AE

Visitors can enjoy a historic tour around the Grade II listed building, showing the various parts of the building in their current use as a showcase of today’s Athenaeum.

Timings and Tours: Sunday 14th September, 2pm to 3pm

Chapel of St Lawrence, High Street, Warminster, Wiltshire, BA12 9AP

The tour covers the Chapel’s unique history, improvement projects, Grade I listed Organ, stained-glass windows, and historic 13th century Chapel tower. Including the 1764 clock, 1657 Main bell and the 1765 quarter bells. Visitors can even ring the bell.

Timings and Tours: Saturday 20th September, 10am to 4pm. Pre-booking is not required.

Pre-Raphaelite Mosaics in St John’s Church, St. Johns Church, 95 Boreham Road, Warminster, Wiltshire, BA12 8LB

Come and view the unique collection of Opus Sectile mosaics including world-famous archangels.

Timings and Tours: Saturday 13th September, 10am to 4pm. Pre-booking is not required.

Tour of The Minster Church of St Denys

Come and explore The Minster Church of St Denys, the oldest church in Warminster, steeped in history dating back to Saxon times.

You will be met by the church warden who will talk you through The Minster’s full and varied history and the many original features still in place today.

Timings and Tours: Friday 12th September, 11am and 12pm. Friday 19th September, 11am and 12pm.

Warminster Maltings Ltd, 39 Pound Street, Warminster, Wiltshire, BA12 8NN

Visitors will receive an expert-led guided tour of Britain’s only surviving commercial ‘floor’ maltings, explaining how malt is made and why Warminster is the historical centre of the industry.

Timings and Tours: Thursday 18th September, 11am and 2pm. Friday 19th September, 11am

Warminster School, Church Street, Warminster, Wiltshire, BA12 8PJ

Warminster School dates back to 1707, the tour includes some of their historical buildings and behind the scenes of their hidden treasures, ranging from a chapel, the Five Courts and the WW2 Italian Prisoner of War Pinocchio Paintings.

Timings and Tours: Thursday 18th September, 10.30am to 11.30am.
