Presented by Crispin Thomas, the Stand Up Historian, in aid of The Royal British Legion
The Standup Historian covers a wide range of topics in his D-Day lecture. In part one there will not only be a focus on the customary facts and figures, but also their will be sounds from the beaches. Film testimony from real veterans and an evocative reading from Ernest Hemingways’ trip to Omaha Beach including a variety of photographs from the day will also be shown.
In the interval a full range of German and British original infantry weapons will be available for the audience to see as well as tea and coffee, at the coffee bar.
The second half covers Hitler’s state of mind, why the Germans failed on the day and a fascinating account of the German soldier Hein Severloh’s day on June 6th. What he saw and how he survived after killing over 1500 marines on that bloody beach.
Then there will be a focus on the Luftwaffe on the day and the Royal Navy.
The lecture although serious in matter is delivered by The standup historian in a light hearted manner and the evening will be entertaining and enjoyable.
You will learn things you never knew about D-Day!”
