Imberbus returns on Saturday 16th August when up to 30 old and new Routemaster buses (plus a few guest vehicles) will operate from Warminster to Imber and other points on Salisbury Plain.
Tickets are available to buy in advance from Athenaeum Warminster and Iris and Olive (during opening hours – not available online) with residents invited to join for the annual trip across Salisbury Plain to the lost village of Imber.
The small, isolated ‘the lost village’ located on Salisbury Plain was once home to a few hundred villagers – now little else but the church, a couple of cottages and a vicarage remain. In 1943, residents were forced out of their homes with 41 days’ notice.
As part of Imberbus 2025, additional activities will be held across Warminster as the town prepares to welcome thousands of visitors, this includes two free exhibitions as well as St Lawrence Chapel (High Street, Warminster, BA12 9AG) hosting cream teas and chapel tours.
𝐈𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐕𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐠𝐞 will feature local families impacted by the evacuation of Imber in 1943 the event will be held at The Athenæum Warminster (18-20 High Street, Warminster, BA12 9AE) from Monday 11th August to Saturday 16th August, Monday to Friday 10.30am to 1pm, Saturday 10.30am to 5pm.
Furthermore, a 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐫𝐭 𝐄𝐱𝐡𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 featuring the work by Julia Roberts will be held within Warminster Library & Museum during library opening hours.
Copies of the event brochure can be picked up from the Warminster Town Council and Civic Centre and Athenaeum Warminster.
This year, access to Imber on this date will only be possible using the Imberbuses themselves.
Warminster School (BA12 8PJ) will be setting up extra parking on the day, costing £5 per car. The car park will be fully staffed and toilets will be available.
