The Mayor of Warminster, Cllr Andrew Cooper has congratulated popular Warminster attraction Longleat, as it celebrated 60 years of lions roaming in the nearby Wiltshire countryside.

The safari park opened on Saturday 5th April 1966 and quickly attracted visitors to the area as the very first drive-through safari outside of Africa.

The Mayor of Warminster, Cllr Andrew Cooper said: “It was an enormous privilege, as Mayor of Warminster, to attend the 60th anniversary celebrations at Longleat.”

“Lord and Lady Bath were the most generous, gracious and welcoming of hosts, as always, and it was a thrill to see so many visitors flooding into the park. There were a number of additional activities specially laid on for this anniversary weekend which were very well received by visitors.

“The sun shone and it was a happy day for all involved. How fortunate we are to have this wonderful facility in our community.”
