Warminster Town Council: Delivering a brighter, greener future for all

Warminster & District Foodbank to move location but provide same service

7 February 2024

Joint press statement from Warminster & District Foodbank, The Athenaeum Centre and Warminster Town Council:

The Warminster & District Foodbank will relocate from their current home in Dewey House (North Row, Warminster) to a building within The Athenaeum Centre for the Community. Access will be from a dedicated entrance along The Close (just off the High Street, Warminster, BA12 9AL).

The Foodbank is scheduled to move locations on Thursday 15th February and will provide a new permanent home with flexible storage and working area, providing the same service to the community.

Jean Colgrave, who has managed Warminster’s Foodbank operations, said:

The new year brings excitement for us all, new beginnings. The new rooms have been decorated to a high standard, giving a suitable space to continue service to local people. Many thanks to the wonderful community of Warminster for the generous support we receive.”

The Foodbank, which is staffed entirely by volunteers, covers Warminster and surrounding villages, and works in partnership with other charities, health, social services, housing, and education services who refer clients for food assistance.

Jon Ellis, Chair of the Athenaeum, has supported the move, following the transfer of The Close Centre to the Athenaeum Trust from Wiltshire Council in 2021.

He said:

It has taken some time to refurbish this part of the building, but we are delighted to have the Warminster & District Foodbank as our new long-term tenants. It fits with our Trust remit of providing community services, and not just entertainment and education.”

There is no planned down-time in services and contact details will remain the same. Landline 01985 214463 or mobile 07855 627945 (in an emergency). Access from an entrance along The Close, just off the High Street, Warminster, BA12 9AL. Opening times Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays 9am to 12.30pm.

Warminster Town Council plans to sell Dewey House and the money gained from the sale will be invested to generate an income for the council.
