Warminster U3A Monthly Meeting

Wednesday 27th November

Warminster Civic Centre, from 2pm

Mary & Kate Hardy: Salisbury, Wessex and Beyond… by Anne Johns & Jenny Head

Mary and Kate Hardy were the sisters of Thomas Hardy, poet and novelist.  They lived their lives in the shadow of their famous brother, but were themselves two of the early trail blazers in elementary education in England. Their austere and rigorous teacher training in Salisbury was followed by the challenge of working in impoverished country schools. The talk will explore the sisters’ different personalities and trace their stories, showing how their experiences influenced their brother’s writing and had impact on his work.

Entry £3.00 including tea, coffee and biscuits
