Join Sustainable Warminster for a special talk on 14 April 2026 at 7pm to learn more about the International Dark Sky Reserve and what you can do to reduce light pollution.

The Cranborne Chase National Landscape team will be speaking at the Warminster Civic Centre at 7pm.

A Sustainable Warminster spokesperson said:

Light pollution was first noticed by astronomers, but we now know it affects far more than our view of the stars. Bright artificial light at night, especially harsh white light, can seriously impact human health. And that’s only part of the problem.

Wildlife is suffering dramatically. Artificial lighting causes millions of bird deaths every year and is a major factor in the rapid decline of insects, with studies suggesting that around 40% of insect species could disappear in the coming decades.

The good news is that the solutions are straightforward. They save money, reduce energy use and carbon emissions, and still keep our streets and homes safe. But we need to act soon.”
