Warminster residents got stuck in to pick up litter and joined in the Great British Spring Clean on Saturday 25th March.
The Great British Spring Clean is an annual event promoted by the charity Keep Britain Tidy and organised by Warminster Town Council. It aims to encourage people to take action to clean up their local environment and reduce litter pollution.
The Volunteers generously gave up their Saturday morning to pick litter from many streets including Woodcock Lane, Weymouth Street, The Avenue, The Furlong, The Ridgeway and around the local supermarkets and car parks.
Over 20 volunteers took part using bags and litter pickers, litter hoops, high vis jackets and gloves supplied by the Town Council. Volunteers were welcomed back to Civic Centre after the litter pick for a hot drink or squash and a selection of biscuits.
Cllr. Allensby, Litter Champion said, “Thank you so much for coming out and helping to collect rubbish, it’s a shame that it needs to be done but together we’ve removed lots of bags rubbish from our streets. Generally the town is quite clean so it was good to do some hard to reach places where litter gets trapped in in vegetation or hedgerows.”
Warminster is extremely fortunate to have some local residents who regularly litter pick around the town, these local litter heroes play an important role in keeping their communities clean and preventing litter from harming the environment and wildlife. Their efforts inspire others to take action and can have a significant impact on the local environment. Keeping the streets clean can create a sense of pride and dissuade others from dropping litter
Another litter pick will be held later in the year, keep an eye on the Council’s website and social media.
