Back for its eighth year, the Great British Spring Clean is the nation’s biggest mass-action environmental campaign. It will take place from 17 March to 2 April.
Warminster Town Council is organising a community litter pick as part of the campaign. This will be on Saturday 25th March, 10am. Volunteers are asked to meet at Warminster Civic Centre where they will be given equipment and a suggested area to clean. If you can’t make the 25th litter picking equipment can be booked, Tel: 01985 214847 or email admin@warminster-tc.gov.uk.
Tell the council which areas need a clean up?
The town council has also asked people to notify them if they feel there is a road or area that would particularly benefit from a litter picking.
Warminster’s Litter Pick Champion Councillor Stacie Allensby said;
“Last year around 50 volunteers took part using bags and litter pickers supplied by the Town Council. I hope we can do even better this year. Although litter isn’t too bad in Warminster, getting that extra bit picked up can make all the difference to wildlife and the appearance of an area.”
“Last year, the amazing #LitterHeroes across the UK pledged to pick nearly half a million bags of litter. Can we count on you this spring, as we battle to clean up the places and spaces we love?”
“New research reveals that more than 8.5 million adults in the UK have done litter-picking at least once in the past six months. That’s a million more people than watched the end of Happy Valley!”
“The good news is that litter-picking is a simple action that anyone can do to make an immediate and visible difference to their area – 85% of those who took part in last year’s Great British Spring Clean reported that taking part made them feel more pride in their local area. And 74% said it improved their mood too!”
“So, if you want to take action to protect the environment this spring and show more pride in where you live, join the Great British Spring Clean and pledge to pick up a bag – or more – today.”
