Praise for volunteers at Warminster Annual Town Meeting

4 April 2023

There was praise for volunteers at the Warminster Annual Town Meeting. The Annual Town Meeting is an opportunity for all local government electors in the parish of Warminster to discuss any issues that concern the town.

This year the meeting took take place on Monday 3rd April 2023 at Warminster Civic Centre, Sambourne Road, Warminster.

Over 40 people attended to listen to reports from various voluntary groups as to how they had spent the grants they had received from the town council.

Representatives from each of the groups spoke at the meeting for up to 3 minutes or submitted a written report that was read out by the mayor.

The meeting provided an insight into the fantastic amount of work being done by volunteers in Warminster and how they were meeting local needs. It was readily apparent how much the work of the volunteers was appreciated by those they supported and by the other residents of the town.

The meeting heard from: Warminster Youth Club, Warminster Carnival Committee, Warminster Cricket Club, Touching Tones Music Therapy, Wiltshire Sight, Sustainable Warminster, Warminster Saddle Club, The Warminster & Westbury Visually Handicapped Club, Warminster Town Football Club, Age UK Wiltshire, Princecroft Primary School,

Splitz Support Group, Warminster Philharmonic Orchestra, The Friends of St Georges School, HELP Counselling Services, Warminster Citizens Advice, the Athenaeum Centre

and the Chapel of St Lawrence. The Chat Café and the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group both outlined the work they do.

Also, as part of the meeting, the Mayor of Warminster, Councillor Chris Robbins, presented the Town Councils Annual Report for 2022–2023 which also includes the financial report. Copies of the report can be found on the town councils’ website https://warminster-tc.gov.uk/ or paper copies can be obtained at the Civic Centre. After the meeting there were light refreshments and a chance for attendees to talk to each other, exchanging ideas, information and thanks.
