At their Full Council meeting on Monday 18th January, Warminster Town Council’s approved the 2021 – 2022 budget; and a precept of £1,275,599, an 8.52% increase on the current year. The Town Council’s decision will add 31.02p per week or about £16.34 a year to the Council Tax of a band D property in Warminster.
Mayor of Warminster, Cllr Christopher Robbins explained that: “It is our duty to agree a balanced budget which will enable the town council to provide the quality services needed for Warminster. Councillors were thoughtful of the financial implications caused by the Covid 19 pandemic and with this in mind limited some of their future aspirations. There is much work to do to improve our Town, but it does cost money.”
“Starting from April, the town council has agreed to take on several new services, assets and responsibilities from Wiltshire Council, but we are advised there are more to come. The pandemic has delayed this process and there is uncertainty as to timescale. Councillors had to make a judgement call. Personally, I think it’s a fair budget.”
“Over the past few years, the town council has grown and is delivering real improvements for residents, for example an improved town park, a new skatepark, a road sweeper to name but a few. The town council has made commitments including reducing our environmental impact and building a stronger and healthy community. The role of the town council is changing but always, as a council we aim to provide value for money.”
