Warminster Town Council: Delivering a brighter, greener future for all

Invite to Warminster Residents – come and plant a tree for the Queen

10 January 2022

In 2022, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, will be the longest reigning British Monarch.

To celebrate her Platinum Jubilee, The Queen’s Canopy initiative will give everyone from individuals to Scout and Girlguiding groups, villages, cities, counties, schools and corporates to play their part to enhance our environment by planting trees from October, when the tree planting season begins, through to the end of the Jubilee year in 2022.

As part of The Queen’s Canopy initiative, Warminster Town Council have planned a community day of planting on Friday the 14th January 2022. Local residents are invited to join us to plant a tree or two. We will be planting 350 trees, split between Ashley Coombe and the Lake Pleasure Grounds. We have chosen to plant low growing trees, providing food and shelter for wildlife.

Planting at Ashley Coombe will start at 10:30am.

Planting at the Lake Pleasure Grounds will start at 1:30pm.

The trees are all whips of about 40-50cm (around 18 inches) tall, ideal for children to plant. Once the tree is planted, it will then need a spiral guard and cane attached to support it while it grows and then mulch will need to be placed around the base of the tree. All you will need to bring is a spade, gloves and appropriate clothing & footwear.
